Experienced retailers from big box stores to mom and pop shops will tell you that every so often you have to move things around and add new products in order to keep sales growing.

You web site is not much different than a retail store.  You must change things around and add new content in order to succeed at sales and to determine how to best market certain products.

Sales and specials are a great way to do this on you home page to entice buyers to go into your site and check out all the great products or services you have to offer.

You only have about 3 seconds to grab the attention of a potential customer, so make you offer clear, concise and enticing if you want to grab that sale.

The net results should increase your overall sales, but in addition to adding new and relevant content to your site, you will increase your chances of of higher search engine rankings.

While it is important to use paid advertising, natural search engine rankings must be sued as well.  The higher you rank on key words relevant to your site, the more visitors you will get and the more potential sales.

You must remember however, that you should not overuse keyword also called keyword stuffing when you create your new content. Create product and services  information pages, add testimonials and it will help your overall search rankings and provide additional reason for your potential customers to stay on your site longer.

Be careful however, try to keep your articles between 250-400 words to keep them otherwise, it will be information overload and you will loose them.

The best rule of thumb about adding new content is at the very least once a month, weekly or daily is even better, but do add new content and change things around a bit every so often, improve your marketing plan and reap the benefits.

Your Computer Can last Longer PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jim Palmer
Tuesday, 20 July 2010 12:27

I am going to delv into something I dont usually talk about, but since I have been around computers for quite sometime even working in tech support, I figure it is osmehting that could help anyone who uses a computer to help it last a bit longer.

We all know that the number one threat to computers is hackers sending viruses or hacking a favorite web site and installing malicous viruses or trojans unto your computer wrealking havoci on it, but there are some other culprits that also wreaks havvoic on your computer.

So lets dig in.

First make sure your comptuer is connected to a surge protector, even if your house has a sure protector connected to the circut breaker box, you should still use it as a backup.  One thing I do is to simply unplug my computer at night from the power source including the internet connection.  IF any storms start up in the night and hit my office, I dont have to worry about the computers beause they cannot be harmed since they are not plugged in.

Another improtant way of taking care of your computer and making it last longer is to keep the heat down.  All computers have cooling fans to help cool the processors, but if you have the CPU inside a computer desk cabinate, the fan is sucking in warm air and not cooling your porcessor down as much as it should be.

You can cut the back out of the cabinat so that cooler air can come in and help the the processor from getting to hot.  If it does overheat, your computer will strain and will slow down.  Likewise, it will will decresase the life span of your computer. If at all possible, keep your house or office cool where you are using your computers and it will also improve the lifespan and processing speed of your computer(s).

Finally, keep them clean.  Do not put liqids on the cpu I know that sounds like common sense, but as a tech support person, I have heard people spilling all kinds of things on and in their CPU and keyboards that have fried their machines and put them atr risk of getting a real nasty shock.

You should also remember to keep the dust out of your computer. I try to dust the interior of my computer at least once every six months. If you are unsure about doing this yourself, you can always get a local computer shop to do this for you.

First, I unplug the power cord. I remove the cover and use a small vacuum to clean out the dust from inside.  If you have never done this before, be careful not to touch any of the components with the vacuum or your hands. Static electricity can damage the sensitive components and the vacuum can damage them so be cautious.

Vacuum around the power supply but DO NOT TOUCH IT.  Even unplugged it can kill you because it stores electricity.

The cooling fan vent and the cooling fan itself gets the most dust.  Use a quetip and hold the blad with a second quetip as you clean them.  Celan each and every blad, then vaccum up the dust.

Making this a routine can help your computer last longer and run better.  I have one machine, that While it is slow compared to the newer machines still runs after ten years and has all of its original parts.

Earth Day Awakening the Conservative in You PDF Print E-mail

Thats right, Earth Day is just for those who love to hug trees, it is for conservatives as well. Anyone who wants to conserve the money in their bank accounts will want to conserve energy and prevent waste.

Updating your business and home to conserve energy use will obviously save you money and improve your overall bottom line at home and at work.  Yes the overall effect is better for the environment as well.

Some of things I have done in order to conserve energy are simple things that many will take for granted.

Driving - I drive as little as possible.  If I do drive, I make sure that my car is in top running condition the tires are properly inflated, oil and fuel filters are clean and most importantly, I try to make my errands a round trip sort of like what UPS does. so that I am not driving back and forth across the city wasting precious time and gas.

I love photography.  The photos you see were taken by me.  But recharging all those batteries takes energy and I like to utilize Free Energy whenever I have the opportunity.  While I am driving, I have a car charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter.  I don't have to plug it in at home and since I am driving, I am getting more than one thing done.  OF course, my favorite way to utilize the sun it solar powered battery charger.

At work my plans are to be completely off the gird and generate enough power to operate my computers. The upfront cost is a bit high but once recouped, the energy is 100% free.

Conserve and preserve, good for the earth and good for your wallet.

Written by Jim Palmer

In order for any business to succeed, there has to be a complete plan.  This is true whether you are online, offline or both.

If your web site is an extension of your current business then you need to create a sepearte marketing plan and have clear and set goals for it.

Those who create a web site and it is the only source of their business revenue must have a complete business plan and incorporate a marketing plan as well.

A business without a marketing plan is like drving down the hwy wihtout any type of directions.  You can move fast and may or may not end up at the desired location.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO), should be a clear should be at the top of your list when it comes to marketing your web site.  It is one of the most cost effective ways to imporve your organic listings in the search engines.

When setting up your site for SEO, be sure to have a clear idea of what keywords and phrases it is that you want to focus.  For example, if you sell one product, then your focus will be narrowed on that one product.  If you sell ten then your keywords / phrases will increase.

There is no magic involved in SEO, but there is a lot of time consuming work and one must analyze their goals and objectives before setting out to build their site for SEO.

Another important issue to consider and this should already be part of your overall business plan is your marketing budget.  Not only should you have a monthly budget for your SEO rankings, but you have to have an advertising budget for Search Engine Marketing (SEM) , pay per click, off line, print, flyers, yellow pages and the like.

A complete marketing plan is one that will help you build a successful business on-line and off.  Of course, the toughest part of any marketing plan is sticking with the plan once it is instituted.  It can take quite some time to create brand awareness and customer loyalty, but stick to it and use trial and error with marketing methods and success will come your way.

You Get What You Pay for with SEO & Web Design PDF Print E-mail

Money is tight and every business wants to make the highest return on their investment.  I have spoken with countless potential clients looking to improve their natural ranks in the search engines.  Some have told me that they went with someone else because they just couldn’t afford my rates.

I do my best to ensure them that I charge to go through their web site, provide an extensive evaluation, suggestions on their keyword / phrases and not only to go about how to improve them but as a certified web master can go the extra step of implementing the changes or working with their web designer to help them implement the changes.

I follow through by following up and checking the results and providing them with updates on the improvements in their ranks.

Many potential clients will utilize the lowest price on someone who is just looking for a quick buck never to be head from again. It is a sad reality of the way some the less desirable "SEO Experts" operate.
